In Asia, you will expect all furniture are included when you rent the house. Since I studied and worked in the North American, I was quite surprised there is empty room.
Let me share with you some my experience when moving to USA. Before writing it, check some pretty model room as below. Isn’t it so pretty？That’s my motivation to work hard. 
1. Where to purchase the furniture
For students, the basic are desk, chair, shoes rack, Drawer Cart , etc. And here are some location I bought furniture.

Look the picture as below. Ikea makes the furniture so elegant and pretty. But you need to assemble by yourself.
