I took mom to the first stop – Alcatraz island in her 2nd time to California. Although I haven’t seen The Rock, “Prison break“is also similar style of stories!

Alcatraz Island is located in San Francisco Bay. The small island was developed with facilities for a lighthouse, a military fortification, a military prison (1828), and a federal prison from 1934 until 1963. Beginning in November 1969, the island was occupied for more than 19 months by a group of Native Americans from San Francisco, who were part of a wave of Native activism across the nation, with public protests through the 1970s. In 1972, Alcatraz became part of a national recreation area and received designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
2. How to buy ticket and ticket price
The tickets are hot in summer. So I recommend to plan earlier. (I would usually purchase 60 days earlier). You can purchase in Website base on your preference.

3. Departure location & Scenes
We waited at Pier 33 to got into the cruise. As Alcatraz Island is always very famous tourist place in summer, I would recommend everyone to reach there earlier( The cruise will leave every 30 mins). The overall time on cruise will be 30mins. And we enjoyed the beauty of SF view & Alcatraz view.
4. Architecture
The place offers the free headphone so can enjoy the story and history. Mom selected Mandarin and she was so into the story-telling tape!
5. Nature
Alcatraz island is belong to National park now. In addition to history, the island is full of nature creatures. My mom was so happy to find the seagull babies! ( Please check this Link and it includes many pretty photos inside!) We took 20% time to view the inside of jail and spent other 80% to enjoy the beauty of great nature.
In island, the researchers observed and recorded the total of nest quantities. (I would said last year? Please correct me if you are an expert!)
