I’m quite often to take Uber or Lyft in Bay are. And in my opinion, these apps are ” Must to have” for traveler or immigrants ( students or freshman). I’m going to provide an in-depth comparison of these two companies.

1. Stock investment

Lyft IPO is on 2019/3 and then Uber IPO is on 2019/5. I’m kind of loyal riders belong these two companies. So I have invested a bit on these two company. Regarding how to invest the stocks in the US, please check Investment learning & US stock trading app – Robinhood.

2. Uber and Lyft comparison

Uber and Lyft are rivals and they always are fighting with the promoting and price. If you are new customer, I would suggest you can apply BOTH as you’ll can get some discount.

3. Price

Uber and  Lyft launched budget saving plan – Uber is Express Pool and Lyft is Share Saver. How to use it please refer Uber Express Pool ( Regarding the the ride pass, Uber currently has recalled the plan.)

I was doing the text to set up same departure and destination on both apps. And you’ll see the Uber Express Pool($15.5) is better than Lyft Share Saver($19.4) in carpool section. However, there’s too much price difference between UberX($26.59) and Lyft($26.93)

( My personal experience:  Lyft will be $5 more expensive than UberX!)

4. Driver and car quality

I’m sharing my own experience. Literally Lyft driver would be more friendly and likes to talk to you on open topics. And the car condition is better as well. However, Uber drivers sometimes are mean. I’m guessing the reason because of too many riders. It’ll cause more complicated issued.

One time, the Uber driver just leave when he saw I was carrying many bags!

However, there would be different cases. I have seated Tesla two times! ( Model 3& Model S)  It really make my day!!

5. Rider quality

Lyft usually more expensive and I always took this when I got the promotion. Relatively, there are less riders I’ve share with and the average rider quality is good. The drama I met so far is nothing.

I have some experience to sit with drunk rider (or some person took weeds before). But I would like to save more money because of tight budget. Uber would still be my priority choice.

One of my favorite movies recently :  Always be my maybe. Uber Pool is one part of story… however I won’t spoil the story then. 

6. Carpool opportunities

Uber is cheaper, so the high chances people will request this. Let’s say I took by uber 10 times, there’ll be 8 times I have shared with other riders. And sometimes I had some bad days, there are two or three riders already in my requested car! And sometimes one passenger dropped and then Uber picked up another passenger in next 2 mins. (I feel like my destination will take forever!)

The customers size is much smaller for Lyft. I took lyft 5 times and I only had one time experience to sit with other rider. Most of time I just requested pool but enjoyed the non carpool benefit!

7. Time( walk and riding)

Even it said Uber Express Pool will meet you within2 blocks. However sometimes I should walk within 5 mins but bus will arrive in 2 mins! I have to call driver and expalin to them. I guess uber is designing the meet-up point according to other passengers and route. However some experiences are very frustrating!

On the other hand, I usually just get in, leave the Lyft without walk anything!

8. Target user

Overall, in my point of view, let’s take airplane as an examples, Uber is like Economic class and Lyft is like more high class business class.

Sometimes you have to compromise something if you would like to save more money. I enjoy both companies and thanks for these new tech can make my life more easier in Bay area!
